Water Tank Colmar
The water tower was of use to the regulation of the drinking water distribution in Colmar, insurant from July, 1884 by the municipal factories. It is the work of the Swiss engineer Henri Grüner and the architect of the city Jean-Baptiste-Victor Huen. Its tower, characteristic of the German neogothic style, is installed(settled) on one of the highest points of the city. It’s a part of the colmarien landscape since 1886. 53 meters in height, the water tower had a capacity of 1200 m3. Closed down since 1984, it remains the oldest of water towers preserved in Alsace.
Le château d’eau servait à la régulation de la distribution d’eau potable à Colmar, assurée à partir de juillet 1884 par les usines municipales. Il est l’œuvre de l’ingénieur suisse Henri Grüner et de l’architecte de la ville Jean-Baptiste-Victor Huen. Sa tour, caractéristique du style néo-gothique allemand, est installée sur un des plus hauts points de la ville. Elle fait partie du paysage colmarien depuis 1886. D’une hauteur de 53 mètres, le château d’eau disposait d’une capacité de 1200 m3. Désaffecté depuis 1984, il demeure le plus ancien des châteaux d’eau conservés en Alsace.
