Carbide and Carbon Building
The Carbide & Carbon Building is a landmark on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Its dark green terracotta facade and golf-leafed crown make it look like a champagne bottle. Many taller buildings have shot up around it since it was built in 1929, but this 37-story art deco icon – designed by the son of Chicago master planner Daniel Burnham – remains a paragon of the architectural feats that the city has inspired for over a century.
