Peterbilt 362 w/ Drop Deck Tank
Peterbilt 362 was a cabover truck built by Peterbilt which replaced the aging 352 in 1981 as the company’s flagship cab over. The cabs were more aerodynamic, taller, larger radiator, roomier and more efficient interiors. The 362 was available with a large one-piece center windshield with three wipers or two center pieces with two wipers. The later refinement was the 362E, which had a slightly set back front axle for longer front springs. The last 362 was built as a SBFA for oilfield use in August 2005. The 362 was available in cab sizes from 54" to 110" BBC with SBFA and tandem steer options. There was also an 8×8 362.
The truck is hauling a 20 ft tank container on a two axle drop deck tank chassis. The trailer was a popular design through the late 1980’s well into the late 1990’s. These trailers were designed to haul the ISO tank container, which is built upon the 20 ft. ISO frame that standard shipping containers use with a steel barrel inside used mostly for hauling bulk liquids or gases. These are built with the same corner castings as boxes and can be quickly locked into the twist locks welded to the end of each tank chassis bolster. Together they make a very effective bulk liquid trailer. The drop deck tank chassis is named that because the “goose neck” portion is significantly lowered to give the chassis a 40″ or 41″ rear deck height (this one is 41"). This lower center of gravity is best for transporting bulk liquids as it reduces the risk of roll overs.
