Description:

This started out as; "Can’t really find the map I’m looking for, I’m quickly going to make one myself". Two weeks later I spent so much time at making this map I decided I might as well publish it after all the work I put in….

I never planned this to be a realistic map, I only wanted a valley with a perfectly flat building area with lots of rivers, so that’s what you’ll be getting if you download this map. I did not smooth the river edges so any placed terrain conforming sea walls will end up closer to the correct height. Actually let me list all map characteristics;

  • 4 highway connections (in and out)
  • 4 rail connections
  • 2 airplane connections to a circular flight path
  • 2 ship connections down the full length of the main river
  • most iron ore deposits clustered on one side of the map
  • most oil deposits clustered at the opposite side of the map
  • several small forests only taking up around a quarter of the max treelimit so you’ll have plenty trees to spare for own placement
  • all deposits are surrounded by agricultural style small fields to provide a nice google maps effect on overview pictures. (for up close it needs some personal touches for sure)
  • all highways and railroads are interconnected to their specific outside connections, I tried my best at making smooth flowing interchanges, though with the rail interchanges I put functionality and relative compactness before realism; feel free to bulldoze at will
  • the entire center area inbetween the mountains is completely level and at the same height all over the place, especially nice if you like making complex road and rail systems without having to worry about height differences messing your designs up
  • there are 3 possible hydrodam locations with low to moderate power production
  • there are 2 river systems which are not interconnected, which allows for full seperation of water intake and sewage
  • nice natural shaped waterflows with unsmoothed edges allowing for near perfect waterfront placement
  • there should be plenty water around to be drawn from the main river

For lighting as seen in the screenshots I used the Daylight Classic mod and Definite Vision LUT v1.3
Also note I used the 2 lane highways from the Rush Hour DLC for the interchanges. I like to play with all 25 tiles unlocked, so the map was designed with that in mind. I advise the Natural Beauty theme if you want better looking mountains.

I haven’t played on the map yet myself, so let me know if there are any bugs you encounter, though I can’t promise full support as I never intended this map to be a workshop item in the first place… I hope you’ll enjoy it 🙂
