Description:

The eighth High School in my collection of Toronto Schools.

This High School opened in 1965 as a standard run of the mill High School. In 1975 the school was expanded with a new Arts Wing (known as the "Art Centre") and the school began to specialize in the Arts becoming an Art School. The school was expanded again in 1977 with the addition of a Swimming Pool. As stated before this school specialized in the Arts, attracting students from across the cities east end and is one of 3 schools in Toronto given the "School of the Arts" designation. Students who wish to enroll in the specialized art programs must first pass an audition before they will be admitted, as well students who live in the area of the school will attend it like a normal high school however they to must go through the audition process if they want to enroll in the specialized programs; these programs are split between the "Visual Arts" and the "Performing Arts". Students in the Visual Arts can specialize in fields such as "Drawing", "Painting", "Sculpting", "Photography", "Fashion", "Graphic Design", and "Animation". Students in the Performing Arts can specialize in "Musical Theater", "Film", "Dance", "Music", and "Production". The Performing Arts program also has deep connections with Toronto’s Theater and Media industries and some students may find themselves as part of theater productions or on local TV and Film projects after graduation or even while still in school.

Each year students in the Visual Arts program put on an art fair known as "The Great Masters Art Show" which is open to the public for Free. Students in the Performing Arts program perform a musical put together by students and staff.

The facility itself includes 16 standard classrooms, 4 Science Labs, 8 Visual Arts Classes (including Sculpting Class, Photography Studio, 2 Mac Labs, Fashion Class, and 4 Art Rooms), 7 Performing Arts Classes (Including a small Theater style room, Dance Studio, Film Studio, 2 Drama Classes, and 2 Music Rooms), Auditorium (with theater seating), Double Gymnasium, 25m Swimming Pool, Cafeteria, and Library.
