华盛顿广场拱门的设计灵感来自于罗马凯旋拱门，于1889年为了庆祝乔治华盛顿就职典礼100周年而建。他取代了用木头和灰泥搭建的拱门。
Inspired by Roman triumphal arches, this structure was erected in 1889 to celebrate the centennial of George Washington‘s inauguration. It replaced an arch on near the site which was a temporary structure made of wood and stucco.
