BIG Suburbs Complete Collection
BIG Suburbs is a project with the purpose to create realistic looking american suburbs. It consists of special custom roads and decorated buildings that match exactly together to create a consistent transition between the paved pedestrian sidewalk and driveways. These decorated houses won’t look good with other roads than Big Suburb roads. So if you want to use BIG Suburbs you need to suscribe to these 3 things:
1. BIG Suburbs Prop Collection
2. BIG Suburbs Roads
3. BIG Suburbs Growables
Because of the special arrangement of sidewalk and driveways there are limitations when placing the roads. It will look best when you choose a layout where roads are completely straight and parallel. When you place curves the decals won’t match the sidewalk anymore. All growables have a lot length of 4 units so the distance between parallel roads should be 10 units (roads are 2 units wide).
All BIG Suburbs buildings are growables. Although you can plop them with mods like Plop the Growables and Find It! 2. It makes sense to use Building Themes which allows only particular growables to show up in a defined district. Just search for „BIG Suburbs“ in the mod settings and create your own Building Theme. There are buildings from Level 1 to Level 5 with a completely different look and vibe. You can let your suburbs naturally grow or you can determine the level of each district with mods like Force Level Up, Control Building Level Up and/or Adcanved Building Level Control
To get rid of the dirt/ruined transition between pavement and grass the roads have an overlapping grass texture. But roads can only show a pure grass texture. Therefore the surrounding area should show the pure grass texture. For the best results you should:
- Choose a Map Theme with a good looking grass texture. There are many beautiful ones on the workshop. I usually use SCT-Homecoming by Raffa
- Get rid of the grass sprites with Remove Decoration Sprites, Theme Mixer 2 or Hide It!
- Extra Landscaping Tools to remove resources (ore, oil and forest) or use No Radioactive Desert And More! to remove the resource textures on your whole map. You can also use Hide It!.
- Remove the forest are ground color with either No Radioactive Desert And More!, Lock Forestry or Hide It!
- I don’t like the ruined look under buildings and some props so I use the Clipping Brush from Surface Painter to get rid of it
- When zooming out the pavement decals will fade out and then disappear at a certain distance. You can enhance this distance by using Ultimate Level of Detail (ULOD)
