Description:

The Tree

Lodgepole Pines (Pinus Contorta) cover an extensive range of highlands and coastal ranges of the American west. These conifers grow well in poor soils but require fire events to maintain healthy populations.

Pinus Contorta grows in a few distinct varieties. "Pinus Contorta subsp. Contorta", the Shore Pine, grows near the coast of the Pacific Northwest. The unique twisting shapes make it a popular landscaping tree that demands minimal maintenance.

Inland varieties of Pinus Contorta, including Pinus Contorta Latifolia and Pinus Contorta Murrayana, grow with simpler habits featuring a single main trunk and can grow to substantially taller heights.

Introduction

Thsi turned into a bit of a passion project for me, seeing as Lodgepole Pines might be my favorite tree. They were an iconic visual element of my trips to the Oregon Coast long before I knew their name.

This release is split over three packs.

Lodgepole Pines: Contains 9 trees representing the taller varieties of Pinus Contorta.

Shore Pines: Contains 10 trees with unique bendy shapes.

Lodgepole Shrubs: Contains 6 low-lying shrub clusters of various sizes that work well as stunted krummholz growth.

More packs are possible in the future depending on my mood and available time, since the possible vareity of shore pines is effectively boundless.

Technical

– All 25 assets across the three packs share a single 1024 x 2048 texture set. The Loading Screen Mod should eliminate the vast majority of functional RAM requirement for these packs.

– Tri counts are a bit higher than my usual offerings for these trees due to their complex shapes and dense branch clusters. Most of the mature trees lie somewhere between 800 and 2300 tris.

Tree LOD Fix is critical as always.

– I recommend using the Tree Movement Control mod to reduce sway, which can eliminate sway on LODs as well, and doubles for random tree rotation.
