Located on a deep plot located on Boulevard Garnier and accessible from the back via Avenue du Parc, the Villa "Ombre Blanche" overlooks the Grande Conche. Flanked by two emblematic Belle-Époque buildings, its uneven “U”-shaped plan opens generously onto the garden. The marked contrast of volumes and materials is reminiscent of that of the very famous Villa “Savoye” by Le Corbusier. But, the use of pilotis, smooth and white coatings, the spiral staircase and especially the beveled facade and the roof with inverted double slope also testify to the influences of the Brazilian architecture of the 1940s, initiated by Oscar Niemeyer or Affonso Reidy. The facade, open to the ocean, made up of a red sandstone base enhanced by a symmetrical volume held cantilevered by thin metal pilotis, is comparable to the design of radio sets of the same period. The size of the windows has been defined according to the hierarchy of the rooms to which they refer and an exceptional set of polychromy completes the treatment of light. Planned by the architect Bonnefoy, carried out for and by Mr. Taunay then furnished with the collaboration of the Prainville company, this characteristic achievement of the modern movement remains one of the most remarkable in Royan.
