ギャランクロスは三菱自動車工業(以降、MMC)の架空のファストバックSUVである。
設定上は、MMC内のラインアップがSUVに重点を置く中で、「アウトランダーよりも上級なモデルが欲しい」という富裕層向けに企画されたものである。
三菱系のラインアップにはない流麗なファストバックスタイルを意識しつつ、セダンとSUV、ステーションワゴンを組み合わせ、そこにプレミアムを取り入れたという設定である。
パワートレインは上級モデルの設定上、PHEV限定ではあるものの、エンジンは新開発の直列5気筒MiVEC5と現行の4気筒エンジン、そしてディーゼルエンジンが選択できる。
設定では、このギャランクロスが架空実在問わない国産車では初のクリーンディーゼルプラグインハイブリッドとしている。
なぜこのモデルを制作したのかというと、最近どこの自動車メーカーもSUVが主力になっている中、作者は1996年ごろに実際に発売された「ギャランGT-RV」という車種に注目した。
そのモデルをベースに上級な立ち位置でありながらファストバックとSUVのいいとこどりをした車種はいかがだろうかと度重なる模索をしながら制作した。

The GALANT CROSS is a fictional fastback SUV from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (hereafter, MMC).
In the setting, while MMC’s lineup is focused on SUVs, it was planned for wealthy people who wanted a model that was more advanced than the Outlander.
It is a combination of a sedan, an SUV, and a station wagon, with a sleek fastback style that is not found in the Mitsubishi lineup, and a premium feel to it.
As for the powertrain, it is limited to PHEV because of the setting of the high-end model, but the engine can be selected from the newly developed in-line 5-cylinder MiVEC5, the current 4-cylinder engine, and a diesel engine.
In the setting, the GALANT CROSS is the first clean diesel plug-in hybrid in a domestic car, whether fictional or real.
The reason why I created this model is that while SUVs are the main focus of all car manufacturers these days, the author was interested in a car called the "Galant GT-RV" that was actually released around 1996.
Based on that model, we explored the possibility of creating a vehicle that combined the best of a fastback and an SUV while still being a high-end model.
