Description:

I’ve subscribed to a few themes and I noticed they have a certain thing I don’t like – while the cliff texture looks very good from far away because of setting large tile size in the theme editor, once you zoom in it’s very blurred, and, as a perfectionist, I couldn’t play like that. I didn’t like noticeable tiling either. So I decided to make theme that has all textures with tiling as little visible as possible, and with a cliff texture that looks decent from any distance. Sure, the distance view would benefit form larger tiles, and the close view from smaller ones, but then the other would suffer too much so I had to settle with something in between.

Overview

This theme is supposed to look nice and lush and less barren than vanilla temperate, which looks like after drought unless you place millions of trees 😉 I never used vanilla sand either, as it’s too bright and has strange alpha (I don’t use Daylight Classic, I tried it but vanilla lighting works best for my laptop with low screen brightness). My theme also seems to give maps sort of a spring look.

  • Ruined is supposed to look like dirt, not dry ground or sand. I initially wanted it to be darker, and make dark gravel, but it didn’t work with the in-game gravel road, so the current version is lighter. I changed the alpha so it doesn’t appear around cliffs.
  • Oil and ore areas are basically unnoticeable when zoomed out. It’s on purpose, because the vanilla “stains” don’t look good in my opinion, and there is the resource view that lets us see the exact resource placement. When zoomed in, there’s a little difference in the grass look.
  • Given that the default grass colour is quite vibrant, it doesn’t get more green under forests (it did initially and it looked like poured paint or some radioactive stuff), just a bit darker.

Texture sizes

Everything is 1024×1024 except for the sand normal map, which is 2048×2048. Strangely, the bigger version has smaller file size than the initial 1024×1024 version.

Texture Credits

All the textures are blends, mash-ups, and edits of some base textures found somewhere, and most of the time don’t resemble the original version much. Dirt is by FabooGuy[fabooguy.deviantart.com], the rest is from Textures.com and exported from The Sims 2 and 3.
