Assurantie Djiwa en Spaarkas Boemipoetra te Bandoeng
The literal translation is "Life Insurance and Bank Bumiputra in Bandung". This company was formed by Union of Dutch East Indies’ Teachers (Perserikatan Guru Hindia Belanda) to make sure the welfare of Indonesia teachers during the colonial era in Magelang, Central Java. There’s not a lot of information of the construction of Bandung branch of this company except it’s located on Groote Lengkong Weg and it’s also used as the headquarter of Onderlinge Levensverzekering "Insulinde" based the postcard which I used as reference. This building is using the Indisch Empire Stijl architecture, characterized by the tendency that the building is still using a style that used in European countries. The other building parts which are not seen on the postcard I made it up using my own imagery.
Based on NEFIS Interrogation Report No. 1234 there are some information about this building:
"On the first floor of a new building called "Boemipoetra" in Groote Lengkong Weg, on the southwest corner of Kantoor Weg, candidates for the Town and Field Police were examined and recruited. The organization was in charge of Soegondo, a Javanese former civil servant."
"Clubs: Bandoeng (West Java) Sep 43: The ground floor of a new building called "Boemipoetra" in Groote Lengkong Weg on the southwest corner of Kantoor Weg was used as a club by Germans, and by Italians up to Italy’s surrender. It was known as the "Balalaika" and was much frequented by senior officers of the Japanese Army."
