Citroen 2cv Special
From 1948 to 1990 roughly 3.8 million ‘deux chevaux’ were sold. This, like the Volkswagen Beetle, was a car for and made by the people. Original TPV prototypes had water cooled flat-twin engines with front wheel drive, single headlights, and aluminum and magnesium panels. Oh, and it had hammock style seats that hung from the roof. After the second World War aluminum prices had increased significantly and the designers decided on using steel and flat panels. by 1948 the 2cv largely looked how we know it today. It included a 2 cylinder air cooled engine with a four speed gearbox, one taillight and a top speed of about 40 mph (65 km/h). It was a huge hit with low income citizens of France. It had a 3 year waiting list to purchase within a couple months. The 2cv did so well, it sold for another 40 years (with some minor and even major improvements including several safety features).
Fun Fact: The radial tire was introduced on the 2cv model.
