Stedelijk Museum
Unique Building
"The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design. It was founded in 1874 and opened its doors in 1895 at Museumplein, in a building designed by architect Adriaan Willem Weissman.
The museum gained international recognition through its pioneering collection and exhibitions of modern art, design, photography, and new media. The Stedelijk Museum played an important role in promoting movements such as De Stijl, COBRA, Bauhaus, and Abstract Expressionism, featuring works by artists including Piet Mondrian, Kazimir Malevich, Willem de Kooning, and Andy Warhol.
After a major renovation and expansion, the museum reopened in 2012 with a striking modern wing, often referred to as “the bathtub.” Today, the Stedelijk is a leading international museum focusing on art and design from around 1880 to the present."
