Description:

When used in conjunction with SteamLocoAnimationMOD, the rod, which is the key element of SL, will move according to the speed.
This is a train set consisting of a JNR Class 9600 steam locomotive and four vintage OHa 35 series passenger coaches.

As stated in the title, when the route is reversed, the locomotive is immediately run around the train.
By applying the simultaneously developed “SteamLocomotiveAnimationMOD”, the locomotive’s essential side rods are fully animated, resulting in realistic motion.

This is probably the first railway asset to feature moving side rods—most likely.

Vehicle Details
Class 9600 Steam Locomotive

Commonly nicknamed “Kyu-Roku” or “Oyaji”, this was a freight steam locomotive.

Production began in 1912, and a total of 770 units were built over more than ten years.
Thanks to its ease of use, it continued working in switching service until the very end of JNR steam operations in March 1976.

The model is based on locomotive No. 39679, which remained in service right up to that final day.
Because it was used for yard switching, the rear of the tender features distinctive zebra striping.

Although this locomotive was scheduled for preservation, it was unfortunately destroyed later in a depot fire.
For that reason, it has been brought back to life in Cities: Skylines.

OHa 35 Series Passenger Coaches

These passenger cars were built before and after World War II.
Their shapes vary depending on the production period, and including related sub-classes, more than 2,000 cars were built.

As they were designed during the golden age of steam locomotives, they pair well with steam engines in a wide range of services, from express to local trains.

The model represents the prewar version with a rounded roof, fitted with the improved TR34 bogies.

Asset Behavior and Animations

The side rods are animated via the MOD, as expected.

The chimney features a rotating spark arrestor that spins continuously.

Two crew members are present:

One operates the locomotive.

The other fires the boiler.

In the forward direction, four animation patterns are set:
starting, running, decelerating, and stopped.

In the reverse direction, only the running animation is used.

Originally, the reverse direction was intended to match the forward animations.
However, due to the Trailer property, animation lag caused multiple patterns to overlap, resulting in visual issues.
Reluctantly, it was limited to a single pattern—so the fireman works extra hard instead.

During coal shoveling, vigorous flames can be clearly seen inside the firebox.

The cab windows are transparent so the crew’s movements are visible from outside.
The front and rear windows are represented using a community-made MOD.

Dense, billowing smoke typical of steam locomotives, as well as steam from the cylinders, has been recreated to a reasonable degree.

An attempt was made to represent faint interior cab lighting at night, but this was abandoned because all CSL light sources emit excessively strong light.

Also, if you could support me, I would like to continue creating assets in the future.
