1987 Fiat Panda
An delightfully simple, utilitarian, inexpensive car.
The Fiat Panda, an easy to maintain car for the masses, a car for anyone and everyone. Named after the Roman goddess Empanda, the goddess of travelers, debuted on march 5th 1980 to the people of the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Within 2 months of the showing Fiat received over 70,000 orders. One of the designers described the design of the Panda to the likes of a pair of jeans; "a simple, practical article of clothing without pretense." The Panda had simple interiors with well thought out design. With simple fabric that could be washed and cleaned easily to folding seats to accommodate more room in the back for luggage. In 1986 a facelift was done for the Panda and many upgrades were given to the car. The Engine options included a 769cc water cooled four cylinder, and a 999cc water cooled four cylinder, as well as a diesel 1201cc option. Suspension upgrades were also included. The Panda would have many iterations and sell until 1995. It was revived for a second and third generation in 2003. Roughly 8 million Pandas have been sold since 1980.
