國民大戲院 Cinema
This is the old cinema of Hsinchu. It began its life in 1933 under Japanese rule as a motion picture house (with the name 營有樂館). In 1946 it was renamed The Great Theatre of the Nation (國民大戲院). It was abandoned in 1991 due to bankruptcy and fell to ruin, but in 1998 was given Architectural Heritage status, and in 1999 it became the Hsinchu Image Museum (新竹市立影像博物館), a museum focused on the art of cinema.
