Shanty Towns – RICO Collection – Brick
Home is home. For millions around the world, home is a shack, crammed amongst a thousand other shacks, amidst the mud and debris, but it is home, and life in these places perseveres and persists, standing defiantly in the faces of the wealthy up in sky scrapers glancing groundward. While the base game of Cities Skylines celebrates an idealistic view of utopian cities, its important to remember that the real cities of the globe are not all two story houses and gleaming towers.
I actually started working on this series of buildings, 49 total if you count all four collections together, roughly a year and a half ago, and I’ve been largely absent from the community in that time, just updating two assets and helping with the Monaco video series in the mean time. I haven’t just been working on these shanties in that time, I’ve been working on other personal projects, procrastinating, and even lost access to 3Ds Max (my modeling program) for a few months. In that time a lot of other shanty buildings came out, and youtube series featuring them, and it was silently killing me every time knowing that here I was sitting on all this hard work and not releasing it. So finally I pushed through, and finished. I present to you shanty towns, a RICO collection of ploppable shanty buildings organized into collections of different types. All of these are fairly low poly, and most use 512×512 textures (although some larger ones use 1024×1024.) I really like how they turned out, and I hope you do too. These versions are RICO, but I did originally conceive this series as a set of growables, so that may materialize at some point in the future.
