[ATTENTION! BORING HISTORY LESSON STARTING HERE]
Wow! After over a month and a half I am finally done with this beast (though it is far from perfect). I present you Église de la Sainte Marie Madeleine, in Paris, in, you know, France. This Roman Catholic Church begun construction in 1763 but after several revision, the most notable by the architect Pierre-Alexandre Vignon, was completed in 1842. Located in the Eighth Arrondisement, this church has had a troubled history. Construction began in 1763 to remplace an older church but was suspended following the French Revolution only to be resumed under Napoleon, who wanted it to be a temple "dedicated to the glories of the French army". During this period most of the plans were laid out and intensive construction really started. Following Napoleon’s defeat during the Russian expedition it became a Church again.

After many delays the Church was finally opened 79 years following the start of construction. It has become, if not one of the most recognizable churches, then one of the most impressive churches of Paris. It is an archtypical neoclassical building, and is in fact a larger version of the Maison Carre in Nice, though most of the layout is inspired by the Temple of Olympus Zeus in Athens (can you see the connection here?). It is a wonderful church, and is surprisingly original and traditional at the same time. Today it is under renovation and still functions as a Roman Catholic Church. I hope you find many uses for this fantastic building, whose architecture could be used not only for a French city but any European city.
