Lighting of the Sails – Sydney Opera House prop pack
This requires a bit of finesse to place. You will need the Prop Snapping mod, which allows you to place props onto buildings the same way you can in the asset editor. The ‘pivot’ or center of the prop is offset from the display. Once you have the right rotation, you need to aim for the bottom of the ‘trough’ between the entrance sail and the main large sail, on the left-hand side of the larger Concert Hall. See the screenshot for an example. Note that these props will only light the western side (left-hand side, from the stairs) of the Opera House, as in the real presentation.
You can find them easily with ‘Find It!’ just by typing "vivid" or "soh". Switch the ones you’ll never use off in Content Manager!

This prop pack uses the Additive Shader to ‘project’ spectacular, vibrant, and gaudy patterns onto the Sydney Opera House. It is not animated like the real show, so you can only use one at a time, but it’s a selection of keyframes from the 2016 Lighting of the Sails presentation, titled "Songlines". It was animated by Artists in Motion, and included work by the following First Nations artists:
Karla Dickens, Djon Mundine, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Reko Rennie, Donny Woolagoodja, Gulumbu Yunupingu
As the presentation is always shifting, crumbling, unfurling, I mostly selected strong underlying patterns before they started moving around. You can watch the full show here, which is also where I got the images.

This wraps up my work on the Sydney Opera House. I don’t think I’ll do another pack from other years, nor will I indulge any dumb requests to put ads for dog racing or sports on the Opera House. Subscribe to ModTools, dump the asset and do it yourself. I’m ready to file it all away and move on to my next project! Some less grandiose stuff for a while. See you then. 🙂
