Townsville
Hello!
This is my first post for Cities Skylines Workshop so here we go!
Townsville is a city of a population of around 180’000 people in and the closer surrounding reasons on the East Coast of Australia, Queensland. The island where the photo was take is called Magnetic Island (or sometimes referred to simply as ‘Maggie’ by the locals) as when Captain Cook (Who discovered Australia) was sailing near it, his compass started spinning in different directions. The island having some mysterious ‘magnetic effect’ on it, this phenomenon inspiring the book ‘A Tango With a Dragon’ released in 2015.
The city of Townsville is unofficially declared the capitol of North Queensland by many locals. The Beach is known as ‘The Strand’ and the Mountainous terrain towards the back of the map is known as Mount Stewart, lying underneath is Lavarrak Barracks, one of the largest Barracks in Australia. Stationed in Townsville includes:
3rd Light Infantry Brigade
5 Royal Aviation Regiment (CH-47 and MRH-90 Tiapan’s)
No. 38 Sqn (Beach Kingair 350)
11th Brigade (Reserves)
The USAF used Townsville as a Airbase for bombers and fighter aircraft and was one of the many FOB for the New Guinea Campaign in WW2.
The Townsville Airport recently just opened up for international flights from Pa Pa New Guinea and has domestic flights linking to Mackey (pronounced ‘Mak-IE’) and Brisbane. NRL is also a huge part of Australian Culture, and Townsville is home to the Cowboys, legends not to be reckoned with! A new Stadium for them is underway, after Jonathan Thurstan said after winning, "we need a new stadium!" As of the time this map was posted the plans to use bore water for the Stadium has failed as it is too close to the ocean.
That was a bit of history and current knowledge for ya, as I come from Townsville this is from the top of my head.
I may create the city of Townsville and post that too but it is extremely unlikely.
