Description:
City information

Arnhem (Dutch: [ˈɑrnɛm] or [ˈɑrnɦɛm]) is a city and municipality situated in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Gelderland and located on both banks of the rivers Nederrijn and Sint-Jansbeek, which was the source of the city’s development. Arnhem had a population of 159,265 in 2019 and is one of the larger cities of the Netherlands. The municipality is part of the Arnhem–Nijmegen metropolitan area which has a combined 736,500 inhabitants.

Arnhem is home to the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Netherlands Open Air Museum, Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’, Royal Burgers’ Zoo, NOC*NSF and National Sports Centre Papendal. The north corner of the municipality is part of the Hoge Veluwe National Park. It is approximately 55 square kilometers in area, consisting of heathlands, sand dunes, and woodlands.

Features
  • 1:1 scale heightmap
  • Compatible with the 81 tile mod
  • Entire highway and rail system pre-build on scale
  • 6 road, 4 railroad, 1 ship and 2 plane connections
  • 4 different overlays to choose from in 2 versions 4k and 8k
  • Tree placement done with overlay

Gameplay

I recommend using the TM: PE Stable mod, to have a more realistic use of the transport system.

The water flow of the rivers is carefully balanced. Therefor DO NOT TOUCH THE SEALEVEL, it will disrupt it.

I have added a ship connection but not in a loop to prevent vanilla ships of clipping through the bridges. They are out of place on this map and I suggest using one of the following river ships packs instead by Lee Towers.
Note do not use the River Container Ship (double) it ends up on land while making the turn into the harbour.

The map theme is temperate but with help of the Environment Changer mod you can switch to other ones for example European.

The frequent switching of lane numbers can cause a zig-zag patern between the highway sections. But with the help of the Surface Painter mod you can mask it.

Settings in Ultimate Eyecandy for a sunrise in the East and sunset in the West:

Heightmap

The map is based on the data of AHN (Actueel Hoogtebestand Nederland: Dutch national Digital Elevation Model[en.wikipedia.org]

AHN 3, 5 meter resolution DTM (Digital Terain Model) scaled to Cities Skylines 16 meter resolution.

  • Dimensions: 17.296 meter by 17.296 meter (16m/px x 1081 px)
  • Height: 40 meter ingame is 0 (zero) meter NAP[en.wikipedia.org] (39 = -1 meter and 41 = +1)

Coordinate reference system: Amersfoort / RD New EPSG:28992

  • North 453096
  • East 197896
  • South 435800
  • West 180600

Infrastructure

I recreated the transport system as accurate as possible with the given roads (incl. road types and lane numbers).

  • Interchanges; Waterberg, Grijsoord and Velperbroek
  • Highways: A12, A50, A(N)325, A348
  • 8 road and railway bridges
  • All major rail lines

Overlays

You can choose of 4 different overlays in 2 versions, 4k[drive.google.com] and 8k[drive.google.com].
Which resolution is best in your situation depends on the amount of free memory. My advice is to use the 8k variant only if your pc has atleast 16GB ram.

I recommend using the Image Overlay mod by Lanceris. The overlays have an alpha layer and with this mod you can change the opacity "on the fly". 0% means the map is fully visible, at 100% the overlay is fully visible.
The first time you load the overlay you need to rotate it into place with Shift+] twice. The default game heading is east = west don’t ask me why.

Trees

The map numbers 555.000 trees, most of them are low poly, of which you will need the Unlimited Trees: Revisited. The Pine trees share the same texture and with the Loading Screen Mod you will reduce ram usage.

Resources

With help of the photo-overlay I painted the resources on the actual location to simulate an agriculture area.

Conclusion

This is my second map in a serie of 1:1 dutch city maps. The next map will be Den Haag aka The Hague allthough no ETA on completion.

I appreciate if you rate this map and express your thoughts about it.

Have fun playing.
