A2021 Diverging Diamond
This is a Diverging Diamond Interchange. It’s a ‘service interchange’, connecting a highway to a regular road network.
Note #1: This interchange design has the traffic that crosses the highway move in the opposite direction. Because of this feature, the traffic lights (if properly set up) at the two intersections only have two steps in a full cycle. To achieve this in the game, you’ll need to use the mod called TM:PE. With it you can set up the ‘Timed Traffic Lights’ (see screenshots). Without this mod, this interchange will not function as it should.
Note #2: In order to get realistic grades at the ramps, this interchange needs the ‘Curb Height Adjuster’ mod. This mod also makes the deck of elevated highways and roads a lot thinner. This is why the minimum and maximum height for this interchange is only -4 to +4 meters from the ground it is placed on.[/b]
Note #3: The road markings you see in the screenshot are saved into the asset. If you want those markings to be visible in your game, you’ll need to subscribe to the Intersection Marking Tool. If you do not care for the markings, then you do not need the Intersection Marking Tool mod. This interchange can be placed and function without this mod.

– Cost: 32.600,-
– Maintenance: 477,-
– Size: 112×62
– Max. height: +4m
– Min. height: -4m
– Steepest slope grade: 1,9°
– Nodecount: 38
– Lane mathematics are applied for a good traffic flow.
– Lane connections have been applied.
– No clipping lightposts/streetlights (lights going through roads situated above them)
– As always; flatten the entire area the blueprint/template covers.
– I advise to put a ‘Timed Traffic Light’ on the intersections and set them up as shown in the screenshots.
Because ‘3-lane highways’ are the most commonly used highway type on maps, I’ve created this interchange to be connected (the highway ends on the interchange) to these 3-lane highways. The 4th lane on the 4-lane highways are used as exit and entry lanes.
Note: I’ve used the mod called ‘Road Options’ to make the roads look darker. With this mod you can alter the road colors of all the roads in your city with ease. Link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=932192868&searchtext=road+options
Enjoy!
The very first interchange I created was a DDI as well. Want to see how my building skills have progressed? Check: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2415988085
Want to know how ‘Lane mathemetics’ work and how to use the functions of TM:PE? I recommend watching some of Biffa’s traffic fixing video’s on Youtube
