This mod allows to change different aspects of game simulation.

NEW IN 1.20

– Recompiled for Cities Skylines 1.17.0-f3 (Hotels & Retreats).

NEW IN 1.19

– Recompiled for Cities Skylines 1.16.1-f2 (Hubs & Transport).

It has many similarities to Ultimate Eyecandy and is for intended as a replacement in companion with Render It! and Theme Mixer.

While Render It! gives you control of render processing and Theme Mixer gives you control of themes, Play It! gives you control of game simulation in terms of game and time speed (day/night cycle) and also weather effects.

The code has been completely rewritten and heavily optimized. Ultimate Eyecandy had several flaws in terms of performance and logic which was actually inherited from the older TimeWarp mod.

But where is latitude, longitude, global light (sun & moon intensity), ambient light (exposure) and LUT from Ultimate Eyecandy? Actually latitude, longitude and ambient light (exposure) is set by the theme and can be changed in themes or dynamically by Theme Mixer. Global light (sun & moon intensity) and LUT is available in Render It!

If Theme Mixer is not enabled though, latitude and longitude is available in Play It! and ambient light (exposure) is available in Render It!

Day/night speed has been improved so it is totally independent of simulation speed. In Ultimate Eyecandy the day/night speed was always paused when simulation was paused. This is not the case with Play It! You can pause the simulation but still have day/night cycle proceeding. You can even separate day and night speed to eg. have slower days and faster nights.

Additionally you can also control game speed which is not identical to the built-in simulation speed. Game speed is the scale at which time passes in accordance to the Unity game engine – that means everything in the game, from camera control to motion of citizen and vehicles where simulation speed is directly tied to the simulation aspects of the game. The simulation speed cannot be slower than normal (1x) in the game but game speed can. Therefore game speed can slow down motion and animation to more realistic settings and also gain some frames per second since the game will do less calculations per second because of longer "wait" between frames. Speeding up will of course do the opposite.

In Play It! more weather options has also been added in terms of clouds and northern lights.
