Capela do Monte
Alvaro Siza Vieira, born in 1933, is a Portuguese architect. He focuses on critical regionalism, meaning that the terrain and context is taken more into account, in opposition to the blatant indifference of modern architecture. He won the 1992 Pritzker prize (the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in architecture).
The Capelo do Monte was built 2018 in the Algarvian countryside in Portugal. This isolated and autonomous chapel is built with local materials and some traditional Portuguese tiles frescos inside. The lighting of the project through small openings allows for a beautiful entry transition, from the hot, bright Portuguese summer, to the fresh and shady interior.
