Proxima Centauri
This is a sci-fi map with a surreal ‘Myst’ vibe to it. It is 100% vanilla.
My idea while I was building it:
Proxima Centauri-b is an alien world (orbiting the star Proxima Centauri) and is set to be colonized by humankind.
This planet is nearly covered by an ocean of water. The landmasses take the form of weirdly circular ‘pads’ that rise sharply out of the water and are perfectly flat. They grow gradually over time, and the bigger, more ancient ones can reach nearly a hundred meters above sea level. Most are fairly young though, and much nearer the surface of the ocean.
Decades of terraforming and engineering have already been completed. A sprawling network of highway and rail lines stretch across the seas and connect the various settlement sites. Having no moon and no tides, massive underwater pumps and drains have been constructed to provide circulation and filtration of the oceans.
Some of the pads were fertilized heavily, to ensure strong food production. Others were seeded with trees. Deposits of oil and valuable ores were also identified on some of the pads. Shipping routes have been plotted between the sites although travel by air is prohibited.
Governors are headed to their settlement sites now to establish water and power infrastructure, and begin zoning to facilitate an orderly migration.
All that’s left to do now is let the humans move in…

Map Notes:
• It is 100% vanilla. You only need the map.
• There’s quite a lot of build area. It may not seem like a lot but virtually all of the dry land is perfectly flat and usable.
• There are more pads outside of the 25 tiles if you want more space.
• The system of pumps and drains provide good circulation in the ocean from the center of the map towards the edges.
• I’ve tested this map extensively to ensure that the roads were all connected and the tunnels weren’t broken or anything. You’re good to go.
• There are 4 each of highway, rail, and shipping connections. There are no air routes.
• The rings of trees on some of the pads total just 20k, I thought it might be an interesting goal for the city builder to establish forests?
Nerdy Astronomy Notes:
• Proxima Centauri-b is actually an exoplanet that exist within the habitable zone of it’s parent star, Proxima Centauri. It is the closest of these possibly habitable exoplanets to the Earth.
• Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf and the nearest known star to sun. It is a member of the Alpha Centauri star system, a triple system consisting of the stars Rigel Kentarus, Toliman, and Proxima Centauri.
