Blueberry
The residents of "Blue" – Blueberry Island – are using the wealth and waste of their successful cobalt mines to reclaim a new sandbank island, with rising sea levels in mind.
A city by EveryDay.
Built for the City Planner Plays, 1 tile challenge (200k sub special), November 2021.
All vanilla assets (including DLCs). Limited mod list here.
More background:
– The start map – Philly Island by E6GSY – has a passenger harbor and cargo harbor in a small quay wall enclosure on a square, 1 tile island. I split the harbors up, but kept the enclosure idea for a passenger port.
– The start map also has farming ground marked out. I used that fertile land shape as inspiration for the form of Blueberry, created a cove in the middle like a pirate island, added mountains, and started ore mining.
– As Blueberry Island doesn’t fill the whole start tile, the easy places to build filled up pretty quickly. As the city grew, I added buses, then a blue tram loop along the coast, using Node Controller and Intersection Marking Tool to keep the cobalt road surface smooth.
– With the full range of industry specializations[skylines.paradoxwikis.com] (generic, farming, forestry, oil, ore), along with the Ore Industry Area running a profit, the city added a Marine Biology campus, and an amusement park pier.
– Blueberry is now running out of urban space, and the residents have selected the sandbanks off the beachy coast for the Reclamation Development Project – like Hulhumalé reclaimed Island in Maldives[en.wikipedia.org] – to meet current and future demand. There is talk in Blue of a monorail and maybe even an airport.
What happens next? You decide in tile 2!
