Myriv, Ukraine, 1243AD
Founded around 800BC, Myriv grew to become a major city of the ancient Scythian empire. It remained a major city throughout the Roman and then Rus periods, until eventually it was destroyed by the Mongols in 1242AD.
Three hundred years later in 1565, a new city, Nemyriv was built up river. The remains of the old city walls can still be seen, the city ruins situated about 3km south east of Nemyriv.
