Monona Terrace

Monona Terrace (officially the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Centre) is a convention centre on the shores of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin.

Originally designed by Wisconsin native Frank Lloyd Wright, it was first proposed by Wright in 1938. The county board rejected the plan by a single vote. Wright would continue to seek support for the plan (and alter its design) until his death in 1959.

Wright made several alterations to the design of Monona Terrace during his lifetime. Although the exterior design is Wright’s, the interior as executed was designed by former Wright apprentice Anthony Puttnam of Taliesin Associated Architects.

In 1997, nearly sixty years after Wright’s original conception, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Centre opened its doors.

From the roof of Monona Terrace, one can see views of downtown Madison, including the Capitol and a panoramic view of Lake Monona.

This asset differs from the real world building in order for it to be more ‘game friendly’. The car parks and raised walkway have been removed, the ramps up to the entrance adapted and the overall height reduced to allow for the changes.

The trees and bushes that are key to the look of the terrace have only been partly added and left for you to finish. Vegetation won’t be ploppable directly on the different levels so use Tree Anarchy and Move It to raise it up the to the level needed.

I’ve built in some pedestrian paths and gathering points so people walk up to the terrace and mill around for a while.

I’ve tried to make this asset as realistic as possible and therefore the geometry tri count is high and the textures large. All of the texture elements have been created specifically for this asset in order for full control over the final look.
