A partially realized design for the architectural department of the Chanin Construction Company by illustrator, delineator and Art Deco visionary Hugh Ferriss.

Architect Irwin Chanin announced a massive apartment hotel complex a few months before the 1929 stock market crash. He was forced to scale his plans down from this beautiful sketch by Hugh Ferris for something more modest with two smaller towers in Manhattan, New York. The current building sits across from Strawberry Fields in Central Park and adjacent to The Dakota where John Lennon resided. But we don’t want some compromised buildings in our cities do we?
