Zimmer tower
The Zimmer Tower (Dutch: Zimmertoren) is a clock tower in Lier, Belgium, named after the watchmaker and astronomer Louis Zimmer. The tower was originally a medieval tower, the Corneliustoren, which formed part of the first city wall.
The 12 dials represent, in order (starting at 1 o’clock) :
the lunar cycle (19-year cycle)
the equation of time
the zodiac with its 12 signs
the solar circle (28-year cycle)
leap years are indicated by two letters, as opposed to a single letter for "normal" years
the day of the week represented by Greco-Roman deities
the rotation of the earth, symbolized by the meridians
the Gregorian calendar represented by symbols (July = hay month)
the calendar of dates
the seasons dial: numbers represent the duration of each season in days and hours
