Kit Homes – Aladdin – The Marsden
The Aladdin Company of Bay City Michigan was a pioneer in the pre-cut, mail order home industry. The company was the first to offer a true kit house composed of precut, numbered pieces. Operations began in 1906 (two years before Sears) and expanded quickly to become one of largest mail-order house companies. By 1915 sales surpassed $1 million. In 1918 Aladdin alone accounted for 2.37% of all housing starts in the United States, around 1,800 homes. The company’s greatest success came from sales to industries which constructed company towns around new plants, mines and mills. Over its more than seventy years in business, Aladdin sold more than 75,000 homes.
With all the characteristics of a bungalow, with all the smart appearance of one, it still gives off the idea of a home with great dignity. Conceived by a leading architect of the bungalow type of home and worked out in detail by master Aladdin designers, the Marsden is a home that is pleasing many satisfied Aladdin customers.
