Description:

* CS has a new DLC with African content, which is great! *

African cities are reaching for the sky even as massive investments in highways, rail and ports bring new wealth to their shores and riverbanks. This District Style is inspired by cities in west and sub-Saharan Africa and blends assets from across the world to achieve the look of a realistic city or town from Gaborone to Aksum and from Djibouti to Freetown.

There are very few assets on the Workshop that are actually from Africa; so I combed through looking for assets that fit the "look" of a modern African city as visible through Google Earth or Photosphere. The densely-packed streets have 3 and 4 story structures with shops on the street level and homes above, and festooned all over with signs and billboards. There are no exact replicas of that on the Workshop; so I used what I could to evoke it.

I found a common thread across large cities in Africa is a bit of a brutalist look; though not quite as stark as some communist examples from the mid 20th Century. There is definitely an African Futurist aesthetic that is present in the real world that I found barely if at all possible to replicate using available assets on the Workshop – though I was pleasantly surprised how well two or three match the je ne sais quoi of modern / futurist African design.

Modelers, I draw your attention to these buildings: https://www.cnn.com/style/article/asmara-eritrea-modernist-city/index.html
