Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death! Don’t Tread On Me!

Another flag used during the American Revolution, used as the official flag of the Continental Navy and Marines. The Timber Rattlesnake was a symbol of unity for the 13 Colonies as was used in the political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin: "Join Or Die". It was also an animal unique to the colonies like the bald eagle, showing a separate identity from the Old World. It’s design proclaims an assertive warning of vigilance and willingness to act in defense against coercion, symbolizing individualism and liberty. As well as became a symbol for distrust or defiance against corrupt overbearing authorities and governments.

The Gadsden Flag is popularly flown in Charleston, South Carolina. The city where Christopher Gadsden first presented the flag.
