Description:

Welcome back to Oakdale!

In this fifth episode of our "what if…?" series, we have a look at the city of Oakdale and what happened this time.

This time, investment into a sustainable future was chosen and all the polluting industry was removed from Oakdale. Instead, service based industries were created which then lead into a huge influx of all kind of IT services. This meant heavily investing into new office areas to create modern, efficient spaces for these companies.

Traffic slowed down after cargo trucks left the city and that lead into some extra capacity, which allowed some downgrades from highways. Biggest investment still was still made into a northern highway, which was tunnelled under the city creating new land area for the offices and better connections across the gap to reunite the neighbourhoods. Urban scarchitecture at its best!

Water purification was also updated to most modern technology and this complex is now located right at the border sending 100% clean water downstream powering hydroelectic dam along its way to the sea. Other notable changes were the introduction of recycling and elimination of all incinerators.

Big thing was a new construction regulations and green bills which lead into heavy renovation of almost all light density residential areas. And at the same time, city’s education and healthcare was revamped since the remote education is the new norm and most of the doctors appointments happen remotely too. Only surgeries and other physical operations need to be conducted in the health center.

Have a look and let me know what you think. As always, only 1 DLC is needed, this time the Green Cities. And unlike usually, HARD mode isn’t required and shouldn’t be enabled. This is due to some strange issue where sustainable houses get next to no residents when this is on. Without it, residents move in normally.

Next one to come might be the Sunset Harbour, as that seems to be the last one which changes the game play in similar manner. Universities, Park Life and Airports are using same add-on mechanism to expand some single features of a city and don’t change the game play in a meaningful manner like these ones that I’ve gone through, do.
