Little-leaf Linden large
Here is a large version of the now classic Linden Tree by MrMaison. This tree is near and dear to my heart because it was the first tree that MrMaison created upon my suggestion. What began in 2018 has grown into a real friendship and lengthy series of collaborations. The strength of my Berlin 1:1 project, with its hundreds of thousands of trees imported from open data, rests squarely on the shoulders of MrMaison’s masterful artistry. What would Berlin be, after all, without Linden trees to line our central east-west boulevard, Unter den Linden?
The "Little-leaf Linden large" is a taller version of MrMaison’s tree, spawning within the range of 20-27m (as opposed to 11-19m of the original). I have scaled up the main trunk, moved the existing branches up, and added three new branches to the base of the tree, taking care not to scale the leaves so that they retain the "little" characteristic of their namesake. This large tree uses 3,291 tris (as opposed to the 2,644 tris of the original) and has a thickened alpha-mask for better LODs.
The Tilia cordata will appear 44,768 times on my upcoming Berlin 2025 map! It is, by far, the most popular species of tree in the city of Berlin. I’m excited to see how many of these will be represented by the new "large" version of our models.
