Great Synagogue of Stockholm
Stockholms stora synagoga
The Great Synagogue of Stockholm (בית הכנסת הגדול של שטוקהולם, Beit haKnesset haGadol shel Stokholm) is an important Jewish landmark, inaugurated in 1870 – the same year Jews gained full civil rights in Sweden.
Hebrew inscriptions on the façade include: "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them."(Exodus 25:8) and "…Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him."(Isaiah 57:19).
Today, it remains a center for Jewish life, hosting religious services, cultural events, and Holocaust memorials. Despite societal changes in recent years, it stands as a lasting testament to Jewish resilience and heritage in Sweden.
