Indianapolis, IN
Indianapolis is the capitol of Indiana, and possesses a population of over 800,000 citizens. With its major population boom occurring with the advent of the Interstate system, it is known as the Crossroads of America for its intersection with so many freeways: I-465 connects I-65, 1-70, 1-74, 1-69, as well as state roads 36, 52, 421, 31, 40, 136, 135, and 37; Indiana also houses a large Fedex operation at the Indianapolis International Airport, connects to the White River, and has a large rail system in operation. Indianapolis has many glistening monuments, such as the Canal, the Indiana World War Memorial, most memorably the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, situated in the exact center of the City in the center of the state’s oldest roundabout, The Circle. The Circle has also inspired nicknames to the city such as The Circle City, as well as the city flag. Indianapolis is home to the Colts, the Indians, the Indianapolis 500, the Pacers, the Fever, the Indy Eleven, as well as the monumental Lucas Oil Stadium and Victory Field. Many prominent public arts buildings are present in metropolitan Indy as well, such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the Indianapolis Zoo. Many buildings stand prominently in the Naptown skyline, but none stand taller than the Chase tower, visible even outside of city limits beyond Marion County.
