1976 Chevrolet Chevette
Based on Chevrolet’s worldwide T platform developed by Isuzu and Opel in 1973, the Chevette introduced in 1976 for the North American market, became the best selling car in 1979 and 1980. It replaced the much less regarded Vega as Chevrolet’s entry level vehicle, and was marketed as such "A new kind of American car". To combat foreign imports and gas prices rising during the mid 70s American companies needed a new approach. With rebates offered, long warranties, smaller cars, and engines that got better gas mileage. The Chevette fit right in. Weighing just under a ton and prices starting just under $3,000.
