Based on the AMC Javelin the AMX was a competitor to the only other two seater performance car of the time, the Chevrolet Corvette. Only the AMX cost about $1500 less. But still cost more than the hardtop or coupe Ford Mustang, Dodge Dart, Plymouth Roadrunner, and Pontiac GTO Judge, all priced a couple hundred below the AMX. Arguably, some with more horsepower. The AMX only lasted 3 years in production with a grand total of just under 20,000 in models produced, much less than the models previously mentioned.
