1959 Miller Meteor Hearse
A Miller Meteor Hearse. Created in 1853 A.J. Miller company of Bellefontaine Ohio, was first known for building carriages. Then by the 20th century as cars began to become more prominent they branched out. Early on they found they could not compete against larger automakers and started to specialize in hearses and ambulances. The Miller company became a staple in the deathcare community. In 1956 a larger company known as Wayne Works (now defunct) bought out the Miller company and merged it with a previous company they had bought out 2 years earlier, The Meteor Motor Car company. Meteor was know for building mainly ambulances, hearses, and limousines. Under Wayne Works both companies would be merged and become the Miller-Meteor Company. All new models would be based on Cadillac Chassis starting in 1957. With great sales, record numbers and commanding the market for nearly 20 years, by 1977 virtually all passenger car ambulances were to be no more thanks to a bill called the EMS Act of 1973. Sadly Miller Meteor went out of business shortly after in 1979 and was sold off.
