Description:

A map inspired by the area of Folsom, CA, USA.

Build your dream city in the foothills bordering between the mountains home to the California gold rush and the fertile Sacramento valley area. Most of the 25 tile area is generally flat with smaller rolling hills that give you good surface area to build on. Towards the lake there are more mountainous areas if you want a little more challenge in your build. The map has all connection types and resources included.

I have taken some liberties with the map to add all resources and a ship line going up the river. The existing roads and rail lines are built in the locations that they exist in reality. The road connections can have some traffic challenges as there is only one highway (US highway 50) that runs across the bottom of the map. The starting square only has access to one of the main county roads (Folsom Blvd), and the other outside road connections are both 6 lane surface streets (Hazel Ave and Madison Ave).

From the starting square you can expand to the north to reach the lake and ore rich mountains. Or, you can expand south towards the rich farmland in the valley and the river shipping access.

The dam area for Folsom Lake has a dirt dam built behind the actual dam site to have the reservoir mostly filled at the start of the game. Building a hydroelectric dam across the mouth of the lake will produce around 200-250 megawatts of power once everything balances (I tried to keep it close to the output of the real dam). Be aware that without any mods or other trickery to add water to the lake it will take hours for the lake to fill and start producing power. You don’t need to worry about cutting off water to your river when you build the dam as there is a water source just in front of the building area that will keep water flowing to your city while the lake fills.
