Description:

Location: Pripyat, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (modern-day Ukraine)
Years of Operation: Unit 1 (1977–1991), Unit 2 (1978–1991)

Units 1 and 2 represent the first construction stage of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. While these RBMK-1000 reactors remained operational after the 1986 disaster, their history was marked by further incidents: Unit 2 was permanently shut down following a major turbine hall fire in 1991, and Unit 1 was decommissioned in 1996 as part of the international agreement to close the station.
