1957 Mercury Monterey
The Mercury Monterey was a full sized car designed to compete with similarly priced full sized Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Chevrolets, Chryslers and Dodges of the time. This third generation Monterey was lower, longer and wider with previous generations all being based on Ford designs wholly. Although this generation only lasted 2 years you could get 4 engine options: 312 cu-in, 368 cu-in, 383 cu-in, and a 430 cu-in with the option of a 3 speed manual or the 3 speed "Merc-o-matic" keyboard Control automatic. Some optionals were: Continental tire kit, whitewall tires, air conditioning and heat, power steering and power brakes, a radio, and a fender skirt. Mid year some design changes took effect and the Monterey went from a dual headlight to a quad headlight.
roughly than 55,000 2dr hardtop coupes were produced from 1957-1958.
