1956 Packard Caribbean
With Packard being an aging brand seen mostly by buyers as a "geriatric brand" by the early 1950s, its no surprise that Packard had to make some changes in order to survive. With aging leadership and outdated designs in an era of increasing horsepower, and highways it was time to make some necessary changes. With some fresh redesigns, as well as taking advantage on some war contracts brought about from the Korean war, Packard acquired some needed income. With the introduction of some lower production high styling vehicles, Packard outsold some of its competition. This included the Caribbean. With 2 or 3 tone paint, Over head valve v-8 new in 1955 and Packard’s all new Torsion bar leveling suspension at all wheels in 1956. It also offered a push button automatic transmission and electric door locks. 1956 Packard’s would be the last Packard designs to reach the public with Studebaker designs replacing it hereafter till Packard’s demise in 1958.
