Description:

Is it a stack? Is it a turbine? Is it a roundabout? No, it’s confusing, and I love it! Jokes aside, knooppunt Kleinpolderplein is an interchange is Rotterdam, connecting Rijksweg 13 and Rijksweg 20 with local roads. Now, there isn’t really a construction date for the interchange, since it’s been rebuilt quite a few times. The roundabout was constructed circa 20 years after the opening of Rijksweg 13 between Delft and Overschie, connecting Rotterdam and Den Haag. Rijksweg 20 was connected to Kleinpolderplein in 1972, completing the interchange to its current state. While it is a functional interchange, I’d persume it’s fairly jammed, considering the amount of traffic on both intersecting roads. Hey Rijkswaterstaat! Where’s that A4 we’ve been waiting for!?

====================================================================

Advantages:
+ Lots of connections everywhere, with quick N <—> W and N <—> E ramps
+ You get a lot of interchange for such a small land take
+ The ramps are smooth enough to make it fit in rough terrain

Disadvantages:
– Not all directions can be reached from everywhere
– You’ll need eagle eyes and the brain of a professional traffic planner to know where to plop this down
– Weaving occurs within the roundabout
