Description:

In 1900 Kansas Citians were clamoring for improved streetcar service and new electric lights. That year, the power station at 1st and Grand Boulevard began construction. The Metropolitan Street Railway Co. took charge of the project as a means of fueling continued streetcar expansion. The Street Railway Journal issue of 1903 called it one of the largest electric railway power stations under construction in the United States and probably the largest outside New York City. It was constructed only 22 years after central station electric service was first available in Kansas City, and it represented the revolution in people’s lives caused by electricity.

After the demise of the original streetcar system, the plant continues to provide electricity, district heating, and cooling for much of the downtown area. Note: Functions in game as power plant only.
