Description:

The 147m tall Berlin "Funkturm" (Radio Tower) was completed in 1926, 37 years after the Eiffel Tower. It broadcasted Germany’s first televised images in 1929, and aquired landmark status in 1966. It sits on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in Charlottenburg and features a restaurant and observation deck.

I modeled this completely from scratch, mainly to play around with alpha maps and to be a distant landmark at the edge of my Berlin 1:1 map. The main model and LOD model are the same, but I think they are lightweight enough that it doesn’t matter. It was important to me that this model looks decent from far away, but don’t expect much detail when you go in close.

This is a unique building, but I’ve removed almost all of the stats. If you want it to light up, it sill needs electricity, but it won’t attract tourists/workers, catch fire, or generate garbage.

TRIS: 314
Maps: diffuse, alpha, specular, illumination (256×1024)
LOD tris: 314 (maps 128×512)

I hope you find a use for this little tower, and please don’t forget to Uprate!
