Temple of Concordia
The Temple F, more known as Temple of Concordia (Tempio della Concordia) is an ancient Greek doric temple in the Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi, UNESCO World Heritage Site) in the ancient poleis Akragas, nowadays Agrigento, on the south coast of Sicily, Italy. It’s the largest best-preserved doric temple in Sicily, and aside Parthenon, the best-preserved Greek temple in the world.
The name is actually conventional, as we don’t know the deity after whom it was built. Temple F is a doric temple with a 6 x 13 peristasis, pronaos and opisthodomos, both distyle in antis. Stairwells on either side of the entrance of the cella lead to the ceiling. It was built approximately in 440-430 B.C., the stylobate measures 39.42 m x 16.92 m (129.3 ft × 55.5 ft), while the cella measures 28.36 m x 9.44 m (93 ft x 30.9 ft). The arches cut into the cella walls were carved in the sixth century A.D., when the temple was converted into a Christian church.
