Komplex Holzmarktstraße
Komplex Holzmarktstraße are GDR-era modernist residential towers that sit just south-east of Alexanderplatz in Berlin. They are part of a neighborhood called "Karl-Marx-Allee,II" which includes a pedestrian promenade that is capped by the famous Kino International, where premiers of Soviet Cinema were held until the fall of the wall in 1989. The 58m-tall, 18-story towers were completed in 1971 and have been since cleaned and re-painted. They are the earliest example of the WHH-GT 18 "Plattenbau" (large panel construction) building type. Today, their bright primary colors and proximity to the TV Tower viewing platform have made them iconic.
